I have sadly just wrapped up the Great Stay-Cation of 2012.
It was fabulous.
I had aspired to be all bloggy about it…posting the latest from the garden and life. There’s just so much to share.
But it didn’t happen.
I couldn’t bare to face anything digital, minus the oven.
I only turned on the computer once for five minutes to download a pattern from Ravelry. I didn’t even check my personal email. I also let the battery in my work cell phone (the smart phone) die in the first 24 hours and then refused to plug it in to the charger. I just couldn’t bare to let an accidental run in with a work-related email spoil my focus on relaxation. So no smart phone…and no quick photos.
I find it so easy to turn off the Digital Age in my life. All you have to do is hit the Off button.
All the same, you can rest assured that I relaxed just fine. There was river swimming and pool lounging…book reading…flower gardening and vegetable harvesting…and pretty much moving the hose constantly so everything doesn’t shrivel and die (it’s been one scorcher after another here).
I made myself take a walk every morning and even did a bit of “lap” swimming in our mini-pool.
There was also tons of knitting. I have three separate projects going now: a purple tee that just needs edging and blocking (still!) to be done, a multi-colored tee that I had nearly done before I realized I screwed up…so then there was unraveling and reknitting, and a petal pink baby tee for a special someone that is turning one in a couple of months. Basically knitting by the water’s edge is the way to go.
It was tragic when the alarm went off this morning at 6:30. If it wasn’t for me keen need for health insurance, I might not have gone in at all. I guess I had gotten used to sleeping in until 8:30 or 9:00 every morning. The way I figure, best to get lots of sleep now to stock up for all the sleepless nights that will be coming my way soon enough.
If you can swing it, I highly recommend a stay-cation. But don’t clutter it up with any home improvement projects…no finally re-doing the paint color in your bedroom or remodeling the bathroom…no running errands and picking up dry cleaning. Just be home and be still (except when exercising). It is just so lovely.
