Summer Rain

by Andrea on June 29, 2011

We’ve had rain the past few days, although I believe the sky is presently clearing. On the upside, this means I won’t have to water the gardens for a couple of days. I still haven’t set up all the automatic sprinklers yet. I’ve been sneaking by.

The rain did put a kink in dinner last night. Giving our kitchen is entirely outdoors due to our remodel (now in Week 3), yesterday’s downpour was a bit of a setback. In fact, I had to pack up the entire outdoor kitchen and put it in temporary storage in the garage.

Humph.

There would be no barbeque or Coleman stove cooking for me last night. Oh no. I am not that hardcore.

Instead, there was the trip to the pizza parlor (only restaurant in the tiny town in which I reside), resulting in a take-out pineapple pizza (my favorite topping). In retrospect, this was a mistake. I should have just made do with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches whipped together on the living room floor. Less calories.

Hindsight is always 20:20.

Double humph.

I have beenĀ  on my best behavior since my doctor told me to lose weight. I have gone jogging the past four days, including during yesterday’s utter downpour (only a couple of miles each day).

[I would have jogged today, but the fire department had my route closed due to the extraction of a dead body from the river near my jogging road (not joking). Very sad. Drowning victim. Today was not the day I wanted to see a dead body for the first time...]

I have even busted out sit-ups, pathetic push-ups (I mean VERY pathetic), and some yoga poses on my office floor. I have not binged on junk food, candy or even cocktails. I have been a good little healthy dieter.

And still I haven’t lost weight.

Shoot me now.

Flipping through blogs today, I have really been missing my kitchen. Most amazing cobbler I have ever seen? Oh man. Fresh strawberry cupcakes? Whimper.

Alas, no baking for me tonight. …Likely not for a while yet.

Tonight is grilled veggie kebabs and fresh corn, drizzly weather and all.

Sorry to hear you’re feeling down :( Hang in there – the weight WILL come off! Make sure you’re actually eating ENOUGH calories! It seems counter intuitive but sometimes it’s actually that that’s causing weight to go nowhere. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. Although somehow I have this sinking feeling I am still get plenty of calories. I’ll have to add them up for the day and see where I come out.

Thanks for cheer Allison. Always appreciated. I didn’t realize I sounded so dire. Sigh. Today is a new day!

I’m sorry about the weight thing…can I make a suggestion? This crappy detox that my liver guy has me on? It’s dropping the weight like there is no tomorrow. It’s hard of course but after 10 days I’m really not craving too much. Even now that I’m on a little vacation! So really, it’s making me realize that the key isn’t exercise but what I eat. Let me know if you want the details of what I can eat (it’s a short list!).

Good luck to you in any case! I hope you don’t get discouraged!

Ameena, yes, I would love the scoop on the liver detox, if you are up for sharing. Thank you! Everyone needs a good detox, now and then.

Hope your veggie kabobs turned out well. They sound great!

I LOVE running in the rain. I really feel like it helps keep the body temperature cool, and this summer heat is killing me so the rain is a nice change. Keep it up I know how discouraging it can be to stay healthy when the scale isn’t budging. Blah!
